How I pretend to have a Leica M9

One day it'll be a real Leica M9 instead of a pretend one.

Before I start, I want to give credit to fellow Leica enthusiast @jaypiddy for the awesome idea. He came up with it first and I copied him because I thought it was so cool.

Less than a week ago, I wrote about my first experience with a Leica M9. I actually got to hold/play with/shoot with/fondle one along with two lenses: SUMMARIT-M 90 mm f/2.5 & the superb SUMMILUX-M 24 mm f/1.4 ASPH. Needless to say, it was a moment of lust I won't soon forget (go ahead, read about it).

Of course, I did the next logical thing. I began to pretend to own a Leica M9. So, what do I have in my hands in that picture you ask? It's my iPhone wrapped with a custom GelaSkin and I have to say, I'm very, very impressed with the product.

A quick search online will lead you to many reviews on GelaSkin and I've discovered that most, if not all, are positive and I agree with them. It adds nearly zero bulk to the phone (though I've found that my Incase Slider Case fits very, very snugly) and stays on beautifully. Application was simple and any readjustments are straightforward and did not cause any frustration. The image itself is bright and sharp and is definitely not prone to wearing out. The quality of the plastic is such that I don't have to worry about stretching, fading, warping or peeling. I've also been keeping my phone in my pocket and I've never had to deal with any lint making it's way under the edges of the skin. Very impressive product indeed.

Yes, it seems like I've gone through great lengths to temporarily satiate my desire for an M9. I even downloaded the Hipstamatic app for my iPhone to flesh out the old-school feel (used to take the picture above and also at @jaypiddy's recommendation). I want a Leica M9 so bad I'm even willing to help someone else get one just so I can live vicariously through them. I've also received a few double takes from people seeing me hold my iPhone to take a picture, thus completing the illusion (and reinforcing my delusion).

I forgot to mention that I received the official Leica promotional booklet for the M9 from when I had a chance to play with it:

I'm nuttier than a Snickers bar dipped in crushed almonds. For an M9, that is.

Non-bias I swear. But, I'm really lovin' your blog. You're so cute when you handle the M9, like a little boy with his first puppy.
