The Empowered Filipina

I have so much respect for Filipinas. I was raised by my mom and my lola and they're very strong individuals. My grandma had to raise her children all by herself after my lolo passed away. During that time, it was quite the challenge for her since my lolo was the sole provider of the family. She persevered and made sure she was able to put all her children through college. She maintained and enhanced our family's dignity and reputation by instilling values that teach humility, generosity and ambition.

My mom is a determined woman who wanted bigger and better things for her and her children. At an early age, she became the family's breadwinner and helped my grandma pay the bills and helped pay for her siblings' college tuitions. One of my mom's goals was to one day bring her mother on a trip around the world. She not only did that but she also brought me along for a very rich learning experience at a very young age.

There's no shortage of empowered Filipinas. I see my wife, my cousins and my friends and I'm confident that they'll continue that tradition of being proud and positive role models for upcoming generations in our family. I see it in the women that take the painful journey to distant countries far away from their families just to create better opportunities for the next generation.

This documentary serves as reminder of the strength of the Filipina. It directly addresses the negative stereotype that is sometimes applied to our Filipina overseas workers. I believe the description says it best:

This documentary follows a collective group of global Filipinas who have been deeply affected by these issues and how they chose to respond by sharing the positivity, and the advocacy of a common mission -- uplifting the morale of Filipinas everywhere.
